Lovel, near Chinhoyi
A gold claim of 10 ha is held. Acquired in 2006 the claim is located on the site of an old small working in Chitomborwizi, about 20 km south of Chinhoyi in Mashonaland West Province.
The local geology consists of north westerly-south easterly trending phyllites and dolomites, dipping about 45 degrees to the south-west.
The official record shows that before mining closed down about 60kg of gold grading about 6.7g/t were recovered. On the surface there are a number of opencast workings in close proximity to each other covering a strike of about 900 m with a maximum width of 3 to 5 metres.
Workings reached about 43 metres vertical depth in an incline shaft. The possibility of secondary enrichment is an important consideration.
Independent consultants consider the gold claim offers the possibility of a high tonnage, medium grade opencast operation.
No exploration work has been done since acquisition. The geological potential will be better known after trenching and drilling of boreholes.
